I just got back from a talk from Adam Smith (co-founded of the Real Junk Food Project) at Leeds University. I almost forgot about it too be honest because I got my ticket so long ago. Good job I got an email reminding me! Too be honest I was a little worried it would be a bit boring like other lectures, but it was so interesting!! It was so thought provoking.
I made some notes in my notebook but they're a little vague up put on here. What was interesting though is what he had to say about 'Hugh's War on Waste', a programme that's been on recently.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall actually contacted Adam Smith to interview them for the programme but Adam said no. He then went on to contact the other RJFP cafes instead.
A lot of what happened was actually staged. Adam said that they wouldn't have done that with all those parsnips and that wouldn't have been the chase. He only talked about Morrisons because they were the only supermarket to respond. Hugh was actually paid as a consultant from Tesco, in to staying quiet about telco's food waste!!! How awful!
Hugh's Tv programme acts as just a 5 minute solution, where by the Real Junk Food Project is lasting solution.
Update!
My recording worked:
(Don't know why there's a big photo of me)
