SUBJECTS OF CONTEXTUAL RESEARCH ALREADY UNDERTAKEN

Level 4:
As semiotic texts, what sorts of reality do adverts during the 1950s construct and how?

Level 5:
How does society impact upon animal’s habitat loss, and does the nature of environmental campaigns affect our response to such issues?

AIM AND/OR OBJECTIVE OF YOUR PROPOSED C.O.P.3 PROJECT

How can the issue of food waste be highlighted at a local level, and how can people be actively involved in making positive changes to the cycle of waste?
Aim to raise awareness about food waste in a practical way which enables people to be more responsible with the way they shop, cook, eat and dispose of food.
  • Current issues in society
  • poverty – statistics
  • rise of food banks
  • supermarket waste – ‘bin dipping’
  • austerity – lack of ‘spare’ income, we can’t afford to be this wasteful
  • environmental waste
  • food production issues
  • Consumerism – 3 for 2, bogof.

1.     What research needs to be undertaken into the general and specific contexts of your practice?
  • Looking at poverty
  • How much food do we waste as a country and as a world
  • Why do we waste so much food?
  • Why don’t we give it to those who need it?
  • How can we stop this?
  • Look at campaigns that are helping to prevent this.
  • Look at local charities such as RJFP and PAYF cafes in local area.
    • Speak to volunteers/managers about the projects and the initiatives they are involved.

  • Food doesn’t even make it to sale if its misshaped – obsession with perfection
  • How is the media trying to reduce food wastage
  • What the government stance is
  • How organisations at a local level are dealing with food shortage/food poverty and waste.

2.     What approach will you take and what processes, methods, materials and  tools  are to be involved in research into your practice?
Make my own campaign
Try and link in to a local charity to produce something which promotes what they are actually doing
Looking at existing campaigns
Ask the public for feedback on what they feel is effective in the campaign
Trying to make people aware – parent managing a tight budget for their food shop, those with poor cooking skills, make kids more aware
Look at food campaigners such as Jack Munroe http://agirlcalledjack.com/about-jack-monroe/
Produce an action pack of information – in food container / recipe card box format
  • Stickers etc
  • Repeat pattern
  • Digital and analogue mixed
  • Drawing food
  • Drawing bins
  • What can you do to help – practical info

3.     What research do you need to undertake regarding who your creativity is for?
Kids? Fun activity and fact pack? What they can do to help-stickers and badges
Adults? more hard hitting facts? Practical tips on how to save money and reduce waste
Mums?-stuff they can teach their kids?
