OK, so I've realised that there aren't very many Food Waste related illustration or imagery. This is exciting for me as I know I'll be producing something new that hasn't been done before.
Information pack?
For my Level 5 CoP I based my written piece and practical on societies impact on animal habitat loss. My practical consisted of an information pack aimed at children and families. This ended up being my favourite and most successful piece of the year. For my level 6 CoP I want to produce something similar but based of the topic of food waste this year. I believe this to follow on naturally from my level 5 work.

Love Food Hate Waste
The illustrations and statistics below are found on the Love Food Hate Waste website. I really like these clever illustrations. They're only digital based which is how a lot of my illustrations developed lasted year. The shapes and colours are nice but perhaps far too simple for what I'd like to produce. I like the clever way the hands coming out of the windows shows the message of food waste.
DID YOU KNOW...
Almost 50% of the total amount of food thrown away in the UK comes from our homes. We throw away 7 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes every year in the UK, and more than half of this is food and drink we could have eaten.
Wasting this food costs the average household £470 a year, rising to £700 for a family with children, the equivalent of around £60 a month.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the benefit to the planet would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road.
WHY IS IT WASTED?
There are two main reasons why we throw away good food: we cook or prepare too much or we don't use it in time.

The Real Junk Food Project
The Real Junk Food Project was one of the first things I came across when researching. Whats great about this organisation is that it's based in Leeds, making it handy for me to speak to them and get some research for my dissertation.
Founded in 22 February 2013, The Real Junk Food Project is a collaborative effort between catering professionals and activists to bring about a radical change in our food system.
Their main objective is to task is to intercept perfectly edible food that would otherwise not make it to plate and serve it as meals in the café or distribute it through their food boutique.
They also run a Pay-as-you-feel (PAYF) policy, so there's no price on any produce.
This is a perfect organisation to talk to regarding both my written piece and my practical. It's so important that they have a strong link, so by letting my findings lead both aspects of the module they should have a clear link.
What I think would be a great idea, is that I could ask The Real Junk Food Project is they would be interested in collaborating with me and have me produce work for them. This would help inform locals about food waste.

How can the issue
of food waste be highlighted at a local level, and how can people be actively

Make my own campaign
Try and link in to a local charity to produce something which promotes
what they are actually doing
Looking at existing campaigns
Ask the public for feedback on what they feel is effective in the

Practical tips on how to save money and reduce waste
Mums?-stuff they can teach their kids?

Design a fun pack which adults would be
happy to purchase for their children, which would contain items appealing to
all ages. Establish what literacy based materials exist already via research
and incorporate these ideas in to the activity pack.
e.g.
· puzzles, games,
stickers, for children
· items supporting
literacy which make it fun

I plan to ask people of different age ranges what they like and don’t
like about existing illustrations, such as those used on book covers, I will
use the feedback to help design the graphic elements on my practical work.

Perceived problems or difficulties:
Finding a topic
or main question- can I write how it’s impacted on a generation?
Do I look at the
promotional side of it and how that helped people get involved and interact?-Pottermore?
How did it help
children to fall in love with reading?
What can I do for
the practical?
Re-do the covers
and make additional merchandise? As this has been done before, I could then
develop new merchandise ot form an activity pack which support children’s
learning and literacy.
